Falkirk manager John Hughes has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace Roberto Martinez at Swansea.

Martinez looks set for a move to Wigan after the Barclays Premier League outfit were given permission to speak to the former Celtic target.

Hughes has also been linked with the vacant Aberdeen and Hibernian jobs but could be lured to a club he spent a year with as a player.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told the Daily Record: "I know John Hughes was down here as a player.

"As things stand it is a bit too early at this stage to put him on any list.

"But John is definitely somebody we know and I wouldn't rule him in or out."
