Rusev is an interesting case in the WWE, as many believe he deserves a lot better than the way he was booked before his injury.

At one point, fans blasted WWE’s decision for having John Cena defeat him at WrestleMania 31 and claimed that he suffered from the Bray Wyatt treatment from the previous, but The Bulgarian Brute has certainly impressed with what he’s been given.

LACK OF DIRECTION

He’s still a monster, he’s great in the ring and has a good look – and nobody can touch him when it comes to his dry humour on the microphone.

Despite that, a new report has emerged which claims WWE officials are very unhappy with the former United States Champion for one of the oddest reasons possible.

According to Billi Bhatti of The Dirty Sheets Podcast, officials are reportedly unhappy with Rusev’s decision to cut his hair.

He shared the news on Sportskeeda, and explained that WWE superstars are expected to seek permission if they want to make any drastic changes to their appearance, and claimed that this is because of the amount of money the WWE invests in marketing.

He added that considering Rusev made a relatively big change as he chopped off most of his famous locks, it means that programmes, cards, sticker books, action figures and more become outdated and then they need to spend even more money to make sure their stars updated looks feature in their marketing material.

This links into something that was speculated some months ago by Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer on an episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio.

The two were discussing Rusev’s role at the Fastlane pay-per-view where The Big Show made light work of him; a strange decision to have a potential star lose in quick fashion to somebody who is edging towards the end of his career.

While they didn’t confirm that was the case, they speculated that it may have been some form of punishment as Rusev cut his hair.

However, another suggestion was that WWE may have just used Rusev to make The Big Show look a bigger threat heading into what may have been his final WrestleMania, as there was no indication at the time as to whether Shaquille O’Neal would be at the event or not.

Billi’s report perhaps backs up the former claim as it doesn’t sound like officials are too happy with him, and that doesn’t bode well for him considering he’s now a part of the SmackDown LIVE roster following the superstar shake-up.

While it’s understandable why they’d be upset as their marketing and promotional material has practically gone to waste, hopefully, they look at the long-term benefits of building Rusev up as a potential top star on the blue brand.
