Jose Mourinho's Manchester United side still have a chance of making the top four this season through a league finish - providing they can beat City on Thursday - or the Europa League.
Although the Red Devils have already enjoyed success this season after winning the EFL Cup, that will not be enough for a club of United's stature and Mourinho's mentality.
Champions League football is a must and it is almost certain the Special One will continue to spend this summer in search of restoring United to the greatness they became accustomed to under Sir Alex Ferguson.
David De Gea's future is something that United fans will be hoping can be resolved in their favour over the summer, but after putting his house up for sale in the area, that is looking increasingly unlikely.
Real Madrid are posied to move for the Spanish international and the 'keeper's girlfriend has made no secret about wanting to return to Spain in recent years.
That means United are likely to be on the lookout for a 'keeper, and AC Milan's prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma is rumoured to top the bill.
Of course, everyone wants the 18-year-old Italian international, so why United?
Agent Mino Raiola represents the in-demand stopper and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, his dealings with United summer on the deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba have put them in pole position.
Raiola is understood to have concerns about Milan's direction since their Chinese takeover and money is understood to be low on his client's priorities.
Juventus have been credited with an interest in Donnarumma in the past, but given Gianluigi Buffon's tremendous form this season, their intentions are believe to have cooled.
And Buffon, 39, had plenty of good things to say about his compatriot when speaking to FourFourTwo.
"Donnarumma is doing great things as he hasn't shown any fear in taking on a stadium like San Siro, despite playing for a big team like Milan," the Juventus goalkeeper told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Along with showing great personality, he has great skills technically and physically.
"However, the thing I like most is that we are talking about a youngster who is doing all the right things, which is key in a career.
