Joseph Parker was left disappointed this week after news broke that Hughie Fury had pulled out of their heavyweight championship fight with an injury which was due to take place on May 6.Plenty of accusations have been thrown around with Parker’s camp claiming that the Fury’s never really wanted to come to New Zealand in the first place, while Fury’s father and trainer – Peter – has come out in full support of his son and shot down those claims.

Deontay Wilder wants to fight the New Zealand native in a unification clash.

The Bronze Bomber will be at ringside on April 29 when Anthony Joshua battles Wladimir Klitschko, but went on to explain that a clash between himself and Parker could create an even bigger fight with the winner meeting either Joshua or the Ukrainian.

Speaking on a conference call, Wilder said: “I want to get Parker.

WILDER VS. PARKER

“Parker ain’t got no opponent right now. I’m fresh. I’m ready and what would be better for me and Parker fighting for the unification and then after that, you have another unification [with the winner of Joshua vs. Klitschko], winner takes all at the end of the year.

“And then in 2018 you start out fresh. It’s exciting right now, the heavyweight division.

“It definitely can happen. My people have been on it day and night. I think it’s going to be up to Parker’s side to agree to doing the fight. We can renegotiate and make this fight even bigger. It can be way bigger than this Fury fight.

“I want Joseph Parker in July. Why not? He doesn’t have an opponent right now. Let’s unify the division. This is the perfect time. Let’s make it happen. You don’t have an opponent. I’m fresh. All the other guys – they’re busy. And now you got the WBC champion available? It’s easy.”

It’s clear to see why Wilder wants the fight, other than having a chance to unify the titles.

He’s hopeful that he doesn’t need to fight Bermane Stiverne again after picking up a decision victory against him back in 2015 – and the WBC has ordered both parties to start talks for a fight but Wilder doesn’t seem to interested.

Instead, we should expect plenty more Twitter activity from the American until he gets a solid answer from Parker’s camp.
