Jose Mourinho had a pretty busy first summer at Manchester United, didn’t he?

He broke the world transfer record to bring Paul Pogba back to the club in an incredible £89 million deal. Mourinho also brought in Eric Bailly for £30 million, Henrikh Mkhitaryan for £26 million and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.

Despite signing four top quality players, United’s title challenge ended before it really begun and they’re left facing a fight just to finish in the top-four in the Premier League.

Therefore, don’t be surprised to see Mourinho splash the cash once again this summer.

But how many signings will the Portuguese boss make in the coming months?

Well, former Red Devil, Phil Neville, seems to think quite a few.

That’s because he’s taken to Instagram to name his dream XI for the start of next season - and it’s ridiculous.

Neville has included as many as six new purchases in the starting XI - with Hugo Lloris, Raphael Varane, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale in the line-up.

Wow.

How much would that cost!?

Neville's XI

Here is the starting XI:

As Neville mentions, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury meaning he is unlikely to play for the club again, he has since replaced him with Marcus Rashford.

While he clearly sees David de Gea departing United for Real Madrid in the near future with the signing of Lloris.

Despite Neville claiming it was only for “a bit of fun” he was ridiculed on Instagram for suggesting such an unlikely line-up.

Of course, United’s ability to attract players may depend on whether they will be competing in the Champions League next season.

Mourinho’s side still have two avenues to pursue in order to qualify for Europe’s elite completion with them through to the Europa League semi-final - where they face Celta Vigo - and are closing the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool in their bid to finish in the top four.

Having said that, Pogba, Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan all left clubs set to compete in the Champions League to join United last summer and Mourinho believes that his side don’t need to be in the competition to sign the very best players.

"Manchester United is very powerful, it doesn't need to be in the Champions League to attract the best players," Mourinho told BBC Sport earlier this year.

"Zlatan could still be in Paris. Mkhitaryan could be at Borussia Dortmund. Pogba could be at Juventus. We were able to attract the players because they know that Manchester United sooner or later will get there.

"If any player decides not to come because of that, then I am happy that they are not coming."
