As always, there was plenty of controversy and talking points surrounding El Clasico.Lionel Messi's injury-time winner earned Barcelona the three points to haul them back into the La Liga title race. But, even before the match at the Bernabeu kicked off, there was confusion surrounding the status of Neymar. The Brazilian forward had been handed a one-match ban after his recent dismissal against Malaga. That suspension was extended to three matches after the referee reported that Neymar had sarcastically applauded him as he walked off the pitch.Barca immediately appealed in the hope that Neymar would be available for the clash against Real Madrid but, after a lack of response from the Court of Arbitration for Sports, they decided against fielding the forward. While the Catalan club felt hard done by Neymar’s ban, they were even angrier after discovering the fate of Sergio Ramos after his shocking lunge on Lionel Messi.Ramos was shown a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Messi, before the Madrid skipper went face-to-face with the referee in protest before leaving the pitch. He was then also seen sarcastically clapping as he left the pitch - something he claims was aimed at Gerard Pique rather than the officials. Therefore, Ramos can consider himself extremely fortunate to have only received a one-match ban as a result - especially as his tackle could well have seriously injured Messi. It means he will miss Madrid’s clash against Deportivo on Wednesday, before returning to face Valencia at the weekend. While Ramos will be breathing a huge sigh of relief, Barca fans - and the rest of Twitter - couldn’t quite get their head around the fact Ramos will miss just one match.

After the match, La Liga president Javier Tebas insisted that Ramos shouldn’t be punished for his gesture towards Pique after getting sent off.

"I think Ramos shouldn't be sanctioned for his gesture towards Pique," Tebas told reporters.

"The players are heated in that moment and it is a healthy feud."
