It’s hardly surprising to see to see Dele Alli being linked with a big move away from Tottenham in the summer considering the incredible season he’s had.

The 21-year-old has scored 20 goals in all competitions and has played an important role in Spurs’ title challenge this campaign. Without doubt, he’s one of the hottest prospects in European football right now.

And the midfielder has certainly caught the attention of Barcelona legend Xavi.

The Spaniard recent spoke highly of Alli and revealed that he’s the sort of player his former manager, and current Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola would like to sign.

"I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players," Xavi told The Sun. "I am sure in the summer he will look also across Europe for players to improve the squad, but also I expect him to look in the Premier League as well.

"At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.

"Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play.

"I am sure it is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources."

But if you thought Spurs would appreciate such a legendary player singing the praises of Alli, you’d be very much mistaken.

In fact, manager Mauricio Pochettino is rather furious with Xavi and his comments.

“Xavi is my enemy and tried to destroy our focus to win,” said Pochettino. “Maybe he is working for Manchester City, he wants to help Guardiola.

“He hates me because he is a Barcelona player and a fan. I know him very well, I played against him a lot and when I was a manager.

“Clubs with a lot of potential are now focused on our talented players because we’re doing good things.

Pochettino even went as far as to recall at time eight years ago when Xavi cheated against his Espanyol side.

“He cheated the referee,” said Pochettino.

“He fell down and it wasn’t a penalty but Ibrahimovic scored and they won the game. On the video it was funny because no-one touched him and everyone in the media was saying it was a penalty. Come on, it was going from lie to lie to lie.”

We think it’s fair to say Pochettino and Xavi don’t quite see eye when it comes to Alli’s future.

While working under Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium might be tempting for Alli, surely he’d be better off staying at White Hart Lane. After all, Spurs are set to finish above City and, with one or two decent signings this summer, could finally achieve Premier League glory next season.
