On Sunday, Arsenal booked their place in the FA Cup final by beating Manchester City 2-1 after extra-time at Wembley. The Gunners were considered underdogs for the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side but battled back from 1-0 down to reach their third FA Cup final in four years. Before meeting City in the semi-final, though, Arsenal have had a fairly favourable cup run. They scraped past Preston 2-1 in the third round before thrashing Southampton 5-0 in the fourth. But it was the clash against National League side Sutton United that captured the attention of the nation in the fifth round. Arsene Wenger’s side produced a professional performance on the 3G pitch, running out 2-0 winners. The match will be remembered for Sutton’s reserve goalkeeper, Wayne Shaw, getting sacked towards the end for eating a pie but there were more positive stories to emerge from the tie.

Arsenal's classy gestures

For example, the Premier League club promised to donate £50,00 towards two new classrooms for Sutton with manager, Paul Doswell, confirming the classy gesture.

"The reality is that Arsenal have been superb all the way through this," Doswell said, per the Evening Standard. "We think they're going to help us with the classroom, that's what we're trying.

"It's going to go into the community fund and they've promised us £50,000 and that will buy two classrooms.

"That is an amazing gesture from them and one we're very thankful for."

And it’s been revealed Arsenal also did something else following the match.

A letter has emerged on Twitter, written by chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

The note is addressed to Sutton United chairman Bruce Elliot and praises the non-League club for their performance on and off the pitch during the FA Cup tie.

Another great act from Arsenal.

After beating Sutton, they went on to beat fellow non-league side Lincoln in the quarter-finals before getting the better of City.

Mr Elliot and everyone from Sutton will certainly be cheering on Wenger’s side when they face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 27.
