It's been a rough old season for Crystal Palace, but now that they are seven points clear of the drop with just six games remaining, it would seem that they are going to live to fight another day.

Boss Sam Allardyce is largely to thank for that pending accomplishment as the club was in a bit of a mess when he took over from Alan Pardew.

In fact, they held the worst record in the top-flight during 2016.

However, the former one-time England boss made a couple of astute signings in January - namely Mamadou Sakho - and has managed to get the best out of the players he already had.

One of those players is Wilfried Zaha, a man who is having his best season in the Premier League to date.

The 24-year-old has six goals and nine assists to his name - both career highs - so far this season and he has been attracting interest from sides at the other end of the table.

Spurs are said to have made a bid in January and Zaha was reportedly keen on the move, but Allardyce shut that prospect down.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Allardyce, who recently described Spurs’ previous bid of £12 million as “absolutely ridiculous”, was asked by reporters if he thought the Ivory Coast international was worth closer to £40 million to which he replied: “Personally, in today’s market, absolutely yes. I hope nobody bids it.”

Of course, Zaha has tried the big club thing before with Manchester United and things didn't go so well.

United shelled out up to £15m to bring Zaha to Old Trafford back in 2013 and the flying winger would only make four appearances in all competitions before finding his way back to Selhurst Park permanently two years later.

Allardyce hopes that Zaha has learnt from that experience, saying: “We would hope he would realise he should stay at Palace for the foreseeable future. He needs to stay here and play every week.”

While Zaha is strong, quick and talented, he is far from a £40 million player. Even in today's inflated market, he has only amassed 12 goals and 13 assists in 109 Premier League appearances, and nine of those assists have come this season.

Is that the kind of production that warrants that price tag?
