Chelsea got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 4-2 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge last night.Any hopes Tottenham Hotspur have of reeling the Blues in were dealt a blow as Antonio Conte’s side cruised to their 25th win of the season.Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill and a second-half brace from Diego Costa helped the west London outfit extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points.Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United 10 days ago saw the gap reduced to four points. But Conte believes that his team have taken a “big psychological step” towards the double.“I think that we passed a big, big step,” the Italian said after Tuesday’s win, via the Mirror. “A big psychological step after the defeat against Man United. Because, against United, we lost three points and then you had to prepare a semi-final against Tottenham.“And then another tough game in the league. I think that, in that moment, we have had a really important test, psychological test, and our answer was very good. For this reason I must be pleased. But we must think this race is open.
“We reached the final in the FA Cup, which is a great incentive for us. But the other competition, the league, is totally open.
“But I think we are ready to fight until the end. Then we must be proud for our job, for what we are doing this season. But now it's normal. It's normal that we have to try to push until the end to keep this position.”
Fabregas recorded another assist
It was a special night for Cesc Fabregas, who overtook Frank Lampard in the Premier League’s all-time assists table.
The Spaniard moved into second place when he provided the cross for Costa’s header, meaning he has now made 103 assists in England’s top flight.
The only blemish on Fabregas’ night was a yellow card he received for a challenge on Oriol Romeu in the 49th minute.
Fabregas could have no complaints, but he attempted to plead his innocence to referee Lee Mason anyway.
What Mason said to Fabregas
In doing so, the Chelsea playmaker placed a hand on Mason’s side - much to the ref’s disapproval.
Mason turned towards Fabregas and appeared to say: “Don’t touch me.”
