Rajon Rondo’s wild ride of a season seems like it is just about over. He suffered a right thumb injury over the course of the Chicago Bulls’ first two games against the Boston Celtics tn their first round series.Up until that point, Rondo had been an absolute force for the Bulls and his inspired play had landed them firmly in the driver’s seat heading into Game 3. Then his injury happened and his team looked almost unrecognisable during their two home games. Two embarrassing efforts at home have landed Chicago in a tied series heading back to Boston for a crucial Game 5. They are going to start Isaiah Canaan at point guard after Michael Carter-Williams has given them basically nothing at home.Rondo was not going to sit idly by and wait for his squad to squander the lead that he helped build though, he resolved to get back out there, even if he was limited by the injury. These sort of moments are the stuff that people remember players for after they are retired.ESPN is reporting that sources inside the Bulls organisation are on record as saying that the point guard had scheduled private evening sessions to test his fractured right thumb and the accompanying wrist in the hopes of making a comeback during this series. While this is admirable, the team has ruled him out for Game 5 in spite of the tests last night. In the past, Rondo has played through injuries in the playoffs. For example the one that he sustained to his elbow playing against his current teammate Dwyane Wade years ago.

Chicago will have to look elsewhere for motivation heading into the TD Garden and the answer might just be seeing what Canaan can give the unit. MCW has been a general non-factor and any little boost could help turn the tide for the Bulls.

Jimmy Butler will have to have a breakout game for the Bulls at some point for them to come away with this win. He has been inconsistent over the course of this series, despite being the best player on the floor for either team.

Wade will also likely see his number called in Boston, but the 35-year-old shooting guard will have his work cut out for him as the playoff mileage is beginning to take its toll. Other teammates like Robin Lopez will also have to return to their Game 1 and 2 form if hope for the upset will be kept alive.
