There can be no guarantees about where Alexis Sanchez will be playing his football next season, although Arsenal are desperate for their star man to remain at the Emirates.

It's been a frustrating campaign for the Gunners, with their top-four chances in serious threat and with the FA Cup their last chance of silverware this season, but the future of Sanchez has been equally frustrating.

The two parties have been locked in contract talks for a number of months, while fellow key man Mesut Ozil is also yet to agree a new deal in north London, with both players free to leave the club at the end of next season.

But losing Sanchez will be Arsenal fans' biggest worry this summer, as Arsene Wenger also considers his own 21-year stay at the club, although the Gunners boss is determined to do everything within his power to ensure the Chilean remains at the Emirates.

With the opening of the summer transfer window creeping up, Sanchez has been heavily linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus. And it remains to be seen whether the outcome of May 27th's FA Cup final could dictate the Chilean's future.

However, with Sanchez still under contract next campaign, Wenger has vowed to keep Sanchez at the Emirates next season - despite the club facing a huge financial hit if they keep ahold of the forward in the final year of his contract.

“Even if he doesn’t sign a new deal, I will make him stay? Yes.” Wenger told The Sun.

Blues interest Sanchez

The current situation surrounding Sanchez, who is reportedly interested in a move to Chelsea according to the Telegraph, is similar to the one that surrounded former Arsenal forward Robin van Persie who later went on to join Manchester United in 2012.

The Dutchman had a wonderful 2011/12 campaign in the lead up to his move to Old Trafford, finishing as the Premier League's top scorer with 30 goals, before deciding to quit Arsenal after eight years - questioning the club's ambition.

"I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days." Van Persie revealed shortly after joining United.

"Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately, in this meeting, it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward."

Wenger rejects RVP comparison

But Wenger has ruled out any comparisons between Van Persie and Sanchez's current predicament, saying: “I let Van Persie go in the last year of his contract because he was 29, going on 30 and he was signing a long-term contract.

“That is not the case with Alexis. I personally think he will sign and stay here.”

It has previously been reported that Sanchez will remain with the club, providing that Arsenal prove their ambitions by making big signings in the summer. But whether they do so may depend somewhat on the future of Wenger, himself.
