Manchester United are set to focus their attentions on strengthening the attacking areas of their squad during the summer transfer window, as they look to build a squad that is, once again, capable of winning the Premier League.

With Wayne Rooney expected to depart Old Trafford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic having recently been ruled out with a long-term injury that will spill over well into next season, Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring more attacking talent to Old Trafford.

Youngsters Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will remain at the Portuguese's disposal next campaign, but Mourinho is desperate to add some world-class talent to his squad.

It's no secret that the Red Devils are ready to make top summer target Antoine Griezmann one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League by offering him a £17 million a year to lure him away from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

However, Mourinho is not content with just the one attacking signing in the summer - despite the Frenchman scoring 25 goals for the Spanish outfit this campaign - and has already lined up another frontman to partner the 26-year-old next season.

Rashford and Martial have scored ten and eight goals respectively this campaign for United, but with their limited game time under Mourinho, the Red Devils boss is after a more potent striker who can play just ahead of Griezmann.

And according to the Telegraph, Mourinho is hopeful that he can lure Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata to the club, with the Spain international seeking a way out of the Santiago Bernabeu - having been limited to a reduced role with Los Blancos.

Mourinho to meet Real's demands

But despite the 24-year-old having received less starts and game time that he would have liked under Zinedine Zidane, the Spaniard has still managed 18 goals - scoring four in his last three league games.

And it's Morata's prolific nature in front of goal that has got Mourinho willing to spend the £40 million Real are understood to be demanding to let him leave.

The Portuguese believes Morata, alongside Rashford and the expected arrival of Griezmann, will all provide him with something different as he looks to have United competing both domestically and in Europe for the first time since he joined United last summer.

Chelsea cool Morata interest

Chelsea came in for Morata last year, while the Real star had reportedly told friends that's where he'd move to this summer, but the Blues' interest in the Spain striker has since cooled, with Antonio Conte interested in former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

That will allow Mourinho to pursue Morata, despite having also been interested in Lukaku, and will hope the lure of linking up with a prolific goalscorer in Griezmann will provide the appeal for the Spaniard to move to Old Trafford.

And such a move may be made possible with Real still interested in David de Gea, after the United goalkeeper's move fell through in the dying moments of the 2015 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have reportedly held discussions with Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak's representatives this week, over a potential move, which would free up United to sell De Gea to Real, potentially, aiding Mourinho's pursuit of Morata.
