UFC star Conor McGregor is getting even more serious about his training for a mega-fight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

The Notorious, who has always boxed as part of his MMA training, has ramped up his efforts in anticipation of a potential bout against Money in September, if a contract ever gets finalized.

On Thursday, McGregor showed off his glove work on Instagram, posting a video of his training at SBC Charlestown in Dublin.

But, though the training video was interesting, the more eye-catching part of the post was the caption, where McGregor ramped up his efforts to get in the mind of Mayweather:

"No disrespect to single discipline fighters, from boxing to kicking to grappling, just know that understanding one style of fighting is simply not enough," the post from McGregor reads. "You are lying to yourself. You are easily dismantled in a true fight. A fight with no rules to protect you. In a straight fight, you do not possess enough tools to keep you alive. You will be dismantled and killed."

Those are some strong statements from the star UFC fighter, who has gone 21-3 in his 24-fight career.

But, though McGregor's boast about knowing multiple styles of fighting may be true, it's irrelevant in this case. He and Mayweather aren't going to participate in an MMA battle - it'll be strictly a boxing match.

And, with Mayweather sporting an unblemished and historic 49-0 record in his storied career, there may not be anyone alive who understands his one fighting discipline like Money.

Though Mayweather, at age 40, is at a disadvantage against the 28-year-old McGregor when it comes to youth and physical size, his record proves he knows what he's doing inside a boxing ring.

Because of Mayweather's outstanding record - which is tied with Rocky Marciano for the best undefeated boxing record ever - the UFC star is preparing for this potential mega-bout as the underdog.

But, while McGregor may be an underdog, UFC boss Dana White said it would be unwise to count The Notorious out before the fight even begins. White said recently that McGregor has a couple of big advantages over Money (via MMAJunkie.com):

“Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old, Conor McGregor is 27," White said. "Conor’s a big dude. Floyd has trouble with southpaws; Conor is a southpaw. And Conor McGregor hits like a truck. When he hits you, you know it.

“So, in no way, shape or form am I saying Conor McGregor wins this fight. I don’t know.

“But it’s more interesting than people think it is. I promise you Conor McGregor will hit him. When they fight, [Mayweather] will get hit and it will be interesting to see what happens.”

Hopefully Mayweather and McGregor settle on a date soon so fighting fans can start to get even more excited for what would be one of the biggest fights in the history of sports.
