April 27 2014 is one of those days where every football fan will forever remember where they were. It’s exactly three years to the day since Steven Gerrard slipped over against Chelsea. One of the funniest or more distressing moments in Premier League history, depending on your opinion of Liverpool Football Club.Liverpool were on course to win the 2013-14 Premier League title until Gerrard’s slip allowed Demba Ba to score past Simon Mignolet.Brendan Rodgers’ side lost the match 2-0, Liverpool then went on to capitulate against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park a week later and Manchester City won the title by two points.
It was hard not to feel sorry for Gerrard, who famously told his teammates “this does not slip” in a team huddle after Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Norwich City a week earlier.
Gerrard: I think about the slip every day
“The slip happened at a bad time, it was cruel for me personally,” Gerrard, per the Guardian, admitted in 2015. “There’s not a day that doesn’t go by that I don’t think about what if that didn’t happen. Would things have been different? Would it have turned out different? Maybe it might of, I don’t know.”
Some football fans have been celebrating 'Slip Day'
But for some football fans, Gerrard slipping over and costing Liverpool the title is still hilarious and will be for many more years to come.
