WWE's first pay-per-view since WrestleMania 33 takes place this weekend, as those superstars who lost on the show will look to act out their revenge at the event, suitably named Payback.

There are some stellar matches on the card, including Kevin Owens vs Chris Jericho for the United States championship, Randy Orton vs Bray Wyatt in a House of Horrors match, The Hardy Boyz vs Cesaro and Sheamus for the RAW Tag Team titles, Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe, and Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman.

Two other title matches are on the card. These are the RAW Women's championship match of Bayley vs Alexa Bliss, and the Cruiserweight title match of Neville vs Austin Aries.

However, recent rumors have suggested something significant about the championship clashes taking place at Payback, which will shape the WWE moving forward and into SummerSlam season.

According to Cageside Seats: "It’s possible no titles will change hands this Sunday at Payback," and they have also said: "The only championship match outcome reportedly still undecided is Bayley & Alexa Bliss’."

First of all, the Universal title, WWE title, and the Intercontinental title will not be defended at the event, as Brock Lesnar isn't defending his championship, the House of Horrors match between Bray and Randy is now a non-title match, and Dean Ambrose hasn’t been announced for a match at the event yet.

Looking at the rest of the championship matches on the card, their specific outcomes do look as clear as day. Owens should retain his United States title as he will go on to feud with AJ Styles while Jericho goes on tour.

It's too early for The Hardy Boyz to lose the RAW Tag Team title and it would be odd for the WWE to take the championship away from them. As for the RAW Women's championship, Bliss could win to become the first-ever RAW and SmackDown Women's champion, but they might be saving this accomplishment for Charlotte Flair.

The Cruiserweight title could change hands as well if WWE wanted to freshen things up before SummerSlam but this move could also be saved for a later date.

From the looks of things, Payback could very well be a rather dull start to WWE's new year following what was arguably their best WrestleMania in years.
