Manchester City missed the chance to complete the double over Manchester United last night.Pep Guardiola will be more disappointed at the 0-0 draw considering City dominated the possession battle. The hosts had 69 per cent possession, and also attempted more shots (19 to three) and completed more passes (556 to 199) than their local rivals. But the only statistic that matters, of course, is the scoreline.A largely dull affair became exciting in the 83rd minute when Marouane Fellaini lost the plot. The Belgian was shown a booking for tripping Sergio Aguero. He then brought the City striker down moments later, before Aguero rose to his feet to confront Fellaini. The Man United midfielder then headbutted the Argentinian and could have no arguments as Martin Atkinson showed him a red card.

Video: Fellaini's sending off

There were just 19 seconds between Fellaini’s yellow card and his straight red. Talk about a moment of madness.

Fortunately for the 29-year-old, his teammates managed to hold on for a point at the Etihad Stadium.

Fans think they know what Mourinho said to Fellaini

Mourinho had a few words for Fellaini as he trudged off the pitch. Plenty believe he asked the midfielder: "What happened?", with Fellaini putting his arms out as if to say: "I don't know."

Top four battle

The result did neither team many favours as they attempt to finish in the top four. The Red Devils are still one point behind fourth-placed City, who missed the chance to overtake Liverpool.

United midfielder Michael Carrick, who played instead of the injured Paul Pogba, was pleased to return to Old Trafford with a point.

"It's a point gained for us," he told Sky Sports, via Goal.

"We would have loved to come here and won the game and we thought we could catch City on the break.

"We did have a couple of chances but we obviously had to defend for large spells in the game, but I thought overall we did that very well, apart from at the end when there was a bit of excitement and a bit of a flurry, but we saw the game out well.

"It makes things more difficult when you go down to 10 men. I know there wasn't too long left but when six minutes go up it's an awful long time to see out. We were intelligent and done it well.”
