Last weekend’s El Clasico was an absolute thriller. Bayern Munich were beaten 3-2 by Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday’s entertaining Der Klassiker.Football fans were hoping to see another thrilling derby match between Manchester City and Manchester United, but it didn’t deliver. In fact, the Manchester derby has been a bit of a let down in recent years. There have been a total of five goals in the past five matches between the two clubs. We had to wait until the 84th minute for the most exciting part of last night’s 0–0 draw at the Etihad Stadium. Marouane Fellaini, perhaps bored himself, decided to liven things up by headbutting Sergio Aguero and getting sent off.United manager Jose Mourinho defended the Belgian after the game and blamed Aguero for his part in the altercation."I don’t say because I didn’t watch it on TV,” Mourinho said afterwards, via United’s website.

“I spoke with Marouane, he’s very disappointed, he feels that it’s a red card because he’s Marouane Fellaini.

“I spoke with Martin [Atkinson, the referee] and Martin told me that in his opinion it was a red card.

“I didn’t watch but probably I can guess it is a bit of a red card and it is a bit of a very experienced, smart Argentinian player. He says that Sergio Aguero was intelligent, the way he reacted, but the only thing I know is that we had to play almost 15 minutes with a tired team."

City missed an opportunity

Mourinho will be more satisfied than his counterpart, Pep Guardiola.

City missed the chance to overtake third-placed Liverpool as they battle to finish in the top four. United remain just a point behind their local rivals.

Although Guardiola will be wondering why his side were unable to convert their dominance - they had 69 per cent possession and attempted 19 shots to United’s three - into three points, he’ll be at least pleased he doesn’t have to watch Nicolas Otamendi attempt to outpace Marcus Rashford any longer.

Rashford vs Otamendi

The Argentinian was tasked with covering Rashford and should have been booked when he brought the 19-year-old down in the first half.

And Rashford left Otamendi with egg on his first with a glorious piece of skill in the 24th minute.

The United striker controlled Michael Carrick’s pass and produced a wonderful flick to beat Otamendi. The City man could only watch as Rashford spun past him and retrieved the ball.
