Manchester City and Manchester United played out an attritional 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium last night.

The 174th derby between the two clubs lacked many big moments, but United's Marouane Fellaini was sent off in the 84th minute for a shocking headbutt on Sergio Aguero, in what was one of the only flashpoints of the match.

It was Pep Guardiola's City side who were on top throughout, having 69% possession and taking 19 shots to United's three on the night. However, only six of these 19 were on target, and the closest City came to scoring past David de Gea was when Aguero hit the post early on.

The draw leaves both sides in contention for a top-four spot, with City remaining in fourth with 65 points and United just one place behind them in fifth with 64 points.

Both teams have a game in hand over Liverpool, who are currently third with 66 points. Jose Mourinho will be content after his travelling side battled to a tough draw and United are now unbeaten in 24 league games.

However, he will not be too impressed with Fellaini, who could miss a number of games if the FA deem his actions to be violent conduct. The midfielder had to be escorted off the pitch by a number of teammates after needlessly headbutting Aguero.

Another United player who didn't exactly cover himself in glory was Ander Herrera. He was involved in a little incident with Fernandinho after the City midfielder made a poor challenge.

The Spaniard reacted angrily before being separated from his opponent. It's not the first time we've seen fury from Herrera this season.

The 27-year-old was also caught making the most of another challenge as he theatrically fell to the ground following a challenge from Nicolas Otamendi.

In the video below, the midfielder can be heard screaming out before rolling around on the floor, holding his leg, before getting straight up once the referee decides not to call for a foul.

The play-acting came less than 24 hours after Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez was involved in a similar incident against Leicester City. The forward stood in front of Christian Fuchs who was attempting to make a long throw into the box.

Instead, he launched the ball at Sanchez, who appeared stunned for a moment, before he threw himself to the ground holding his face.

The Chilean was booked for his dive, but even so, this kind of thing seems to be happening more and more in the Premier League, which is a worrying trend.
