Once the rest button that is Payback is out of the way, WWE can finally focus on other rivalries that are taking place.

The superstar shake-up certainly played a part in damaging some feuds, as Bray Wyatt was moved over to Monday Night RAW and is still feuding with SmackDown LIVE’s Randy Orton, while Chris Jericho has his United States Championship rematch against Kevin Owens, with the winner moving over to the blue brand.

NEW FEUDS

Hopefully, the following night on RAW puts all the mess behind and we can move on in terms of fresh, new storylines.

One of those rivalries features The Viper, and although he’s battling The Eater of Worlds at the Payback event with no title on the line, he already has a contender waiting for him – and right now, he’s got the WWE Championship after stealing it on SmackDown this week.

Orton and Jinder Mahal will do battle at Backlash, but it’s expected that the former will retain the gold before moving on to a feud with Baron Corbin, who is said to be getting slightly repackaged to prepare for that big feud.

However, according to a new rumour from Cageside Seats, there’s another star WWE is planning to give a big face push to relatively soon.

Despite being on the main roster for a few weeks now, Shinsuke Nakamura hasn’t competed in front of the main roster cameras yet, but is expected to finally be in action at Backlash against Dolph Ziggler.

The source is claiming that The King of Strong Style could be getting a big push in the coming months, which makes you think that Orton will not only be retaining against The Maharaja, but against The Lone Wolf as well.

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Nakamura is one of the finest athletes in the company and was bound to succeed on either roster because he also had the fan support behind him.

Not only that, but it was speculated that the only reason Corbin is getting a championship opportunity is because officials believed it was too early to throw Nakamura into the title picture; so soon after moving up from NXT.

There are plenty of big-name opponents out there for Nakamura on SmackDown, and you could argue that somebody like Owens would be another fantastic pick.

However, if Owens remains the champion then it suggests that Nakamura could be towards the top end of the card with the even bigger names. Right now, they don’t get much bigger than Orton and if Nakamura isn’t placed into title contention then there’s one big name that sticks out – AJ Styles.
