Fans have been left slightly disappointed this week after UFC president Dana White was forced to postpone the proposed light heavyweight championship clash between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

It was speculated that their highly anticipated rematch was being targeted for the UFC 214 event in Anaheim, California while the likes of Cyborg Justino and Tyron Woodley could also feature on the stacked card.

BITTER RIVALS

Bones has been offered the chance to get his rematch following his one-year suspension from USADA and now DC is getting tired of waiting for an answer as it’s thought that Jones could prefer a tune-up fight rather than fighting Cormier right away.

If that’s how it unfolds, then the champion could be defending his gold against Jimi Manuwa instead; but he’s keen on avenging his sole professional loss and has some strong words for his bitter rival.

Cormier’s message is simple, Jones either must take the championship fight or he’ll be forced to wait on the sidelines for his turn inside of the Octagon.

DC'S RULES

Speaking on UFC Tonight, he said: “I stand on take the fight with me, Jon Jones. There’s no tune-up fights in the UFC.

“If you’re a guy that has dominated the division as he has, why not come back and try to get your title? Come meet your boy, DC, come get this money.

'Let’s get this money together and give the people in Anaheim a show. No tune-up for Jon Jones. He gets to come and get beat by me this time.

“We’re fighting right now or he doesn’t get to fight me. It’s my rules, I’m the champ now.”

The two also had a Twitter altercation some weeks ago, with the biggest talking point surrounded Cormier’s bold allegations against Jones where he claimed the latter has been using steroids and because he was caught out by USADA, we witnessed a below-par performance when he managed to overcome Ovince Saint-Preux.

Cormier wasn’t blaming ring rust and claimed the ‘USADA-regulated’ Jones is the one he’ll defeat – should he accept the championship fight for UFC 214.

He added: “The person that we saw against Ovince Saint-Preux is the new USADA regulated Jon Jones. He’s always going to look like that. Yes, I will beat him up on July 29.

“I’m the champ now. He plays by my rules.”

You can understand why Jones wouldn’t want to dive in at the deep-end right away, whereas Cormier knows the biggest money fight available is Jones, so expect plenty more call-outs for UFC 214.
