Bless Jermaine Jenas.

It was only last weekend that the former Spurs midfielder was on the receiving end of a 2-1 verbal beatdown at the hands of Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer.

Jenas was adamant that Tottenham were the better side during their 4-2 FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, but Shearer and Lampard, whilst begrudgingly admitting that Spurs had more possession, wouldn't accept they were the better side.

After Shearer was done with Jenas, Lampard would have an exchange with his former international teammate that really told Jenas.

Jenas said: "Spurs played better than Chelsea."

Lampard replied: "You don’t need to be at your best to win semis and finals, I know a lot about it."

Jenas: "Tell me, Spurs were the better team, won’t you be disappointed to lose like that?"

Then Lamps hit him with the real dagger: "Well, I would be disappointed if we lost 4-2 and be called a better team later."

This time, Jenas was taking part in BT Sport Score, BT's version of Gillette Soccer Saturday alongside Dean Saunders, Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage.

The topic centered around Saido Berahino and how his stock has fallen since moving to Stoke. The former West Brom is said to have put on as much as two stone in weight while rotting on the bench for the Baggies and is yet to rediscover his peak fitness.

The England Under-21 striker has one goal in eleven games for the Potters and is struggling to repay the £12 million - which could end up as much as £15 million - that Mark Hughes paid for him.

While Saunders openly questioned his hunger and motivation, to the agreement of Sutton and Savage, Jenas took the other route and defended Berahino. Watch the argument HERE.

The livewire forward was told he would not play for West Brom unless he signed a new contract, something he did not want to do in the hope of securing a move to Tottenham that never materialised.

Jenas believes the mental impact of that saga has led to his fire not burning as strongly as it once did, but is there really an excuse for a professional football - who trains virtually every day - not being fit?
