If you weren’t keeping up to date with the rumours ahead of WrestleMania 33, then you were probably in for a massive shock on April 2 when The Hardy Boyz made their return to WWE.

The triple threat tag team match was then changed to a fatal four way, resulting in Matt and Jeff not only receiving some of the loudest reactions of the night but they went on to claim the RAW tag team championships as well.

RETURN

Fans are pleased to see them back, and that excitement continues to turn up a notch every week when we get more updates on the Broken gimmick potentially airing on WWE television.

That’s something fans have to look forward to in the coming months, but something fans still want to know is how this epic return came about.

Granted, the rumours did indicate that it was pretty much a done deal so some fans weren’t surprised – but you also have to wonder how many people on the WWE roster knew the brothers were making a comeback.

Karl Anderson of The Club recently spoke to USA Today’s For The Win section, and revealed that although the expectation was there because of the speculation, they only received official word a couple of hours before WrestleMania kicked off.

SURPRISE

He said: “We found out a couple of hours before we had to work.

“We had some kind of expectation because the rumours were flying for a couple of weeks. The day of is when we got word they were coming. We were all very happy with it.

“At the end of the day, Jeff and Matt Hardy helped make the WWE tag team division what it is. The ladder tag team matches they had at WrestleMania in the past made those matches famous.

“Being in there at WrestleMania with Matt and Jeff Hardy was an honour in itself. It was a great moment to be part of it and I’m glad we got that.”

It sounds like the WWE left it quite late, especially since they wouldn’t have had much time to plan their match beforehand with some epic spots but the surprise factor certainly paid off.

They weren’t the only ones surprised, though, as current Monday Night RAW commentator Corey Graves claimed that he had no idea The Hardy Boyz would be featured in the match either, and you can tell that by the genuine surprise in his voice when their music first hit.
