Brock Lesnar won the Universal championship when he defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 earlier this month. Since then though, he has only made one appearance in the WWE, which was the following night after WrestleMania, and he is yet to defend the title.

WWE has announced when The Beast Incarnate will defend the Universal title for the first time, as this will be on July 9 at the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

However, some fans may have noticed the flaw in WWE's booking of Lesnar first Universal title defense and, more importantly, the number of days between him winning the championship at WrestleMania 33 and his first title defense on July 9.

That's a period of 98 days, which doesn't exactly fit into one of WWE's golden rules.

WWE has stated time and time again on their programming that a champion must defend their title at least once every 30 days or they have to forfeit the title since they're not a “fighting champion.”

This means The Beast has to defend his Universal championship at least on three other separate occasions before his scheduled defense at Great Balls of Fire on July 9 otherwise, he will be stripped of his title.

Yeah, like the WWE is going to make him do that.

So, it looks as though WWE is going to allow Lesnar to get away with breaking one of the company's golden rules and not receive any punishment for doing so. Strange considering it was only just before WrestleMania 33 earlier this year that they enforced the rule on another superstar.

Naomi

On February 21 earlier this year, Naomi was forced to relinquish the SmackDown Women's championship as she would not be able to defend the title within WWE's 30-day rule due to a knee injury she picked up during her match against Alexa Bliss for the title at Elimination Chamber.

Everything ended well for her though as, at WrestleMania 33, she won the Six-pack challenge by pinning Bliss last, regaining the SmackDown Women's title.

So why can't they do the same thing to Brock?

It looks as though WWE is going to allow Lesnar to not defend his Universal championship within the 30-day rule limit and not receive any punishment as a result. This isn't the only time though that the company has allowed The Beast get away with breaking one of their rules.
