The return of The Hardy Boyz came as a surprise to many as some flat out refused to believe that a comeback was on the cards, even if all signs pointed to it happening.
We saw Matt Hardy’s merchandise store shut down, he and Jeff stopped taking independent bookings and would only honour the ones they had already agreed to do, while they also become the Ring of Honor tag team champions.
WRESTLEMANIA RETURN
Even then, some were sceptical of them coming back.

That was until their Ring of Honor deal was revealed to be a short-term contract, and that concluded at Supercard of Honor when the duo were dethroned by The Young Bucks, allowing them to feature in the RAW tag team championship match the following night at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.
There probably wasn’t a better team they could drop the gold to, as Matt and Nick Jackson continue to push the boundaries on the independent scene and it’s understandable why WWE fans want them in the organisation.
In fact, last year they revealed that AJ Styles had asked them to jump ship with him, but they didn’t do it and allowed The Phenomenal One, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to leave NJPW for WWE.
The Young Bucks were recently guests on Edge and Christian’s new podcast, and revealed that they were two of the few people that knew The Hardy Boyz were heading to WWE the next night, and also explained that Vince McMahon had sent them a message, via Matt Hardy.
RESPONSIBILITY
Jackson said: “We actually felt a lot of responsibility there too. We knew what they were doing the next night. We were two of the few guys in the world that actually knew about it.
“Nobody else in Ring of Honor that night knew about it except us. So, we were like, ‘We can’t hurt these guys.’ What would that look like on us? That was definitely weighing on our hearts. We were like, ‘We gotta take care of these guys, they’ve got a big night tomorrow.’
“[Matt Hardy] comes up to the ring and he’s like, ‘Vince McMahon called me this morning and said, ‘Hey, I know these Young Buck kids are good, but could you please tell them to take care of you guys?’”
Considering it was a ladder match, they had to at least put some memorable spots on during their match, and it was clear that Jeff was still banged up from it at WrestleMania – but still jumped off the ladder anyway.
While it’s great to hear that Vince not only knows they exist but knows they’re good, don’t get your hopes up on a WWE switch.
They’ve still got 18 months left on their current deal and revealed they have no plans to come to WWE just to get lost in the shuffle.
