It was two points dropped for Manchester United as they failed to overcome relegation-threatened Swansea at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time when he converted from the penalty spot.

Swansea will have been aggrieved with Neil Swarbrick’s decision to point to the spot after Marcus Rashford appeared to dive, but they pushed in search of an equaliser and it arrived in brilliant fashion.

Gylfi Sigurdsson curled home a wonderful free-kick to level the scores late on, and it’s hard to to say that the Swans didn’t deserve a point.

They could have snatched all three but Fernando Llorente fluffed his lines from yards out.

Paul Clement’s side remain in the bottom three but they will have taken plenty of confidence from this afternoon’s match.

The draws continue to mount

As for Man United, this was their 14th draw in the league this season. No team in Europe’s top five leagues has managed more.

The Red Devils are hoping to finish in the top four and secure automatic qualification to the Champions League, but 10 draws at Old Trafford simply isn’t going to cut it.

Jose Mourinho’s side remain in fifth place with three games remaining.

Shaw and Bailly limped off

Just as concerning for the United boss as the result was the injuries to Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly, both of whom limped off before full-time.

Shaw, who has completed just four matches in the Premier League this season, suffered an ankle injury and was replaced after nine minutes.

And Bailly was forced off in the second half, with Matteo Darmian coming on as his replacement.

Long injury list

The last thing United need right now is more injuries. Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are already on the treatment table, and they’ve now been joined by Shaw and Bailly.

Mourinho had joked earlier in the week that he might need to be called upon.

“I’m also training hard in the gym so I can also be an option,” he said. “Mourinho and Tuanzebe against Swansea.”

After Bailly came off, Mourinho was spotted warming up on the touchline with a smirk on his face.
