Antonio Conte knew heading into today’s match against Everton at Goodison Park just important the game would be.Chelsea’s fixture list after today’s game reads: Middlesbrough (home), West Bromwich Albion (away), Watford (home), Sunderland (home). As end-of-season run-ins go, Conte could haven’t asked for a much easier one.But first, he had to get past Everton, who have had an impressive season under Ronald Koeman and would provide a stern test to the Premier League leaders. And so it proved. Chelsea struggled to break down a resilient Everton side for most of the game.

Pedro scored a worldie

You got the sense that it would take something special for Chelsea to score. And that’s exactly what Pedro produced when he gave the visitors the lead in the second half with a phenomenal strike from nearly 25 yards out.

The Spaniard manoeuvred the ball onto his left foot and sent a scorching effort past a helpless Maarten Stekelenburg.

Gary Lineker tweeted: “Sometimes it takes something truly special to clinch a title. We may have just seen exactly that from Pedro. Stunning goal.”

Chelsea might have ended the title race

Gary Cahill made it 2-0 from Eden Hazard’s free-kick as Conte’s side secured a well-earned win. It was the performance typical of champions - gritty, determined and, ultimately, class.

The news of Chelsea’s win will have reached Mauricio Pochettino, who can do nothing but hope his side keep the pressure on by beating Arsenal in the north London derby.

If Spurs defeat their rivals, the gap will be four points with three games remaining.

So Chelsea won’t have the title sewn up. But just look at that run-in again - do you really think they’ll throw it away?
