Jorge Masvidal is slowly propelling into a new tier of superstardom in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) after downing fan-favorite Donald Cerrone with ease.

'Gamebred', who started off as a street fighter, is now the No. 5-ranked welterweight in the world and is staring at the possibility of challenging for the UFC's 170-pound throne. He will take on jiu-jitsu specialist Demian Maia at the UFC 211 pay-per-view (PPV) in Dallas next month.

During a recent appearance on Submission Radio Masvidal got the opportunity to discuss his upcoming match-up with the Brazilian and revealed a potential bet with UFC President Dana White - worth $200k (quotes via LowKickMMA):

“I wish it was in play for this, man. I wish, man. We reached out to him, it was no comment. It was like, ‘Ah you know, just fight this guy,’ and then there was no implications of a bet. So I mean, I don’t think any bet will be made, but I still got the money. The money’s there, it’s on hold. If Dana calls me tomorrow and he goes, ‘Hey, you know what, I’m gonna take you up on that bet, I think Maia’s got your number,’ that money’s going into an escrow account and then the winner the will take the money.”

Masvidal is currently on a three-fight win streak over names such as Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger, and of course Cowboy Cerrone. His last two victories have come by way of finish.

Maia is on an incredible run himself, as he is currently a six-fight win streak that includes three submission wins. The Brazilian has been on the brink of title contention for quite some time now and could solidify his title shot with a win over Masvidal.

The last four wins for Maia have been over some pretty big names such as Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, Matt Brown, and former title challenger Carlos Condit. A win over Masvidal would certainly be enough to propel him into a bout with current division champ Tyron Woodley.

UFC 211 will be live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center, and is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Stipe Miocic and Junior dos Santos. It all goes down on May 13, 2017.

The bout is currently the third up on the main card. The event will feature a co-main event strawweight title bout between Joanna Jędrzejczyk and challenger Jessica Andrade.
