Payback threw up it's fair share of shocks and on more than one occasion left the fans in a state of confusion.

One such instance came when Chris Jericho defeated Kevin Owens to re- gain the United States Championship that he lost at WrestleMania.

A strange decision

It has been known for several weeks that Jericho is leaving WWE to go on tour with his band Fozzy, so his win at Payback came as somewhat of a shock.

With Jericho leaving, it was initially speculated that his match with Owens at Payback would end with KO retaining his title.

That proved wrong though and Owens wasn't able to keep the title, with Jericho once again leaving as the US Champion.

The result meant that fans were left questioning if Jericho would be taking the title with him for his time away and also, if Owens would be getting traded back to RAW as a result of his loss?

While Owens now seems set to remain on Smackdown, he also has a chance to take the title back almost as quickly as he lost it.

WWE confirmed Monday night that Jericho will defend the title on Tuesday's episode of Smackdown and that Owens will be getting his mandatory rematch.

Owens will have another chance at the title on Tuesday night and it is expected that he will probably claim the title back.

The #1 contender for the title has already been identified with AJ Styles lined up to challenge for the US Championship at Backlash.

Styles and Owens have already began working against each other over the last few weeks so if Owens does claim his title back, he will already have a natural spot to settle into.

If Owens is able to win the title back on Tuesday and end Jericho's reign after just two days, fans may be left with one question.

A pointless reign?

A loss for Jericho and a two day title reign will surely leave fans questioning why the company made the choice to have Jericho win on Sunday.

If it was to get Y2J onto Smackdown, that could have been achieved easily upon his return to the company.

A two day title reign could be seen as devaluing to the title itself but also as quite pointless by a lot of fans.
