Cristiano Ronaldo has broken so many records since joining Real Madrid in 2009 that it’s hard to keep up.
The Portuguese superstar has now scored an absurd 399 goals in 389 matches for Los Blancos following his hat-trick against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
This was the 42nd hat-trick of his Madrid career. A truly mind-blowing achievement.
Nobody could have envisaged Ronaldo scoring quite so many goals after completing his £80 million move from Manchester United eight years ago.
Although he was magnificent for United - particularly during his final three seasons with the club - his goals-to-games ratio was much less impressive.
Ronaldo only scored 84 Premier League goals
In 292 games for the Red Devils, Ronaldo scored 118 goals. Ninety-one of those goals were netted between 2006 and 2009.
Only 84 of those goals were scored in the Premier League, meaning the likes of Dion Dublin, Darren Bent and Emile Heskey all sit above him in the league’s all-time top scorer list.
Ronaldo won't be breaking Shearer's record
Sitting top of the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer list is, of course, the unmovable Alan Shearer.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United centre-forward netted an astonishing 260 goals in England’s top flight. No other player has even managed to break the 200-goal mark.
This, it’s safe to say, is one record Ronaldo won’t be breaking - even if he returns to England before he finally hangs up his boots.
Shearer congratulates Ronaldo - gets trolled
Shearer congratulated Madrid’s No. 7 on Twitter for registering the 47th hat-trick of his illustrious career, but one Ronaldo fan on Twitter decided to have a pop at the Match of the Day pundit.
Shearer tweeted: “47th hat-trick from @Cristiano. Absolutely staggering. #ChampionsLeague #realatletico #CR7”
The Ronaldo fan replied: “42 not 47* typical p**s poor analysis from you mate, ain't watched MOTD in years cos of doughnuts like you, don't know s**t about football”
Shearer had the perfect response
However, Shearer wasn’t wrong. Ronaldo has scored 47 hat-tricks during his career.
“You even retweet @SkySportsStatto and you still can't read,” came Shearer’s withering response. “It's 47 for all clubs peanut brain.”
Full marks for use of the insult ‘peanut brain’. Not heard that one for years.
Twitter loves Shearer's playground insult
His Twitter followers loved it, too…
The Ronaldo fan then came back with...
So Shearer went and owned him for the second time today...
Ronaldo only scored one hat-trick for United
Incredibly, Ronaldo only managed to score one hat-trick during his six years at Old Trafford.
Even Kevin Nolan has more hat-tricks than Ronaldo in the Premier League.
It’s a funny old game.
