The New Day have been very quiet on television programming after the Superstar Shakeup. During that event, it was announced that Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods would be taking their act to SmackDown Live via a trade.

But, before that move, a bit of bad luck hit the trio as Kofi Kingston suffered an ankle injury at the hands of The Revival during a post-match assault. WWE.com announced that he would be out several weeks and the performer would require surgery to deal with the problem.

Dr. Chris Amann explained it at the time: “During the attack by The Revival, Kofi injured his right ankle and heard a crack, and was unable to put weight on his leg following the attack.

“Further evaluation and an MRI revealed that the attack had caused fragments of bone to break off the ankle bone (talus), requiring arthroscopic surgery to remove the bone chips from the damaged joint.”

Now, with the surgery completed, Kofi is on the mend and he used Instagram this week to share the journey through his recovery with his fans. He posted a video of him walking with the aid of crutches before pushing them off and taking some steps under his own power.

This is a great sign for fans of The New Day and it seems like he will be back to 100 percent sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, a lot of time has passed between their last appearance and the day that they make their return on SmackDown Live.

It will be interesting to see how the creative team decides to use them going forward on the blue brand. There are already a handful of tag teams positioned to compete for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles and their unit is a relative newcomer.

All three men had a very successful WrestleMania this year as hosts and their biggest moment of the night was announcing that the Hardy Boyz would be participating in the ladder match for the RAW Tag Team Titles during the Ultimate Thrill Ride.

The New Day took to Twitter after the trade to speak about the roster movement and seemed positive about the idea of moving to Smackdown. Obviously their record reign as tag champs happened on RAW so they will always have a soft spot for the red brand.

Now they will have to forge a path for themselves away from the platform that made them such a huge entity in the WWE. Only time will tell what exactly fans will see out of the tag team on their new home brand.
