Former England cricketer Adam Hollioake was left in a state of shock after a lady, he described as a "granny", stole an antique cabinet from him that he had advertised on Gumtree.

The incident can only be described as one of the most comical crimes to have befallen someone of late.

Hollioake, who now lives in Australia, revealed that the elderly lady had responded to his advert online, and had come to his house to pick up and pay for the cabinet.

Hollioake, who began a career as a professional MMA fighter after his retirement from cricket, said the lady was about 70 years old.

The former all-rounder, having helped the lady put the seat of her car down and pack the cabinet in, was left stunned on the pavement when the pensioner, who had said she was going to get the money out of her glove box, tore off down the road with the cabinet in tow, leaving Hollioake empty handed.

Writing on his Facebook page, he said: "She said I will just get the cash out the glovebox for you... nekkminit (sic) she drives off!!! With my cabinet!!! Without paying me!!!"

Hollioake was able to see the funny side of it, however, and stated that he was in such a state, he failed to even think to take down the registration number of the lady's car.

He continued: "Haha what a legend granny!!! Total badass!!! There I was stood in the middle of the road like a gormless fool as she floored it out of my road.

"I was in so much shock at what was happening (& p****** myself laughing) that I didn't even get her rego.

"What a savage!!! Ex Professional fighter rolled by cute little old granny!!!"

Lesson learned for Hollioake then, get a hold on your money first, no matter the age, or cuteness of the customer!
