By and large, Jesse Lingard has been an impressive performer for Manchester United this term. Having paid his dues with a number of loan spells around the lower reaches of English football he finally appears to be coming of age.
Of course, he's far from being the finished article, but he's stepped up admirably when Jose Mourinho has needed him and he appears to have won the trust of The Special One, which is no mean feat, whoever you are.
However, tonight he finds himself in the Europa League semi-final, and earned a starting berth in the squad that's travelled to Celta Vigo.
It was meant to be the night that United put one foot in the final, but during the first half the England international earned himself ire from the fans.
If you've never heard of Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez before, you will have now. The Spaniard found himself in inspired form during the first half, denying both Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan with a pair of stunning saves to keep the scores level.
But where their efforts were well dealt with, Lingard's wasn't so spectacular, and United fans are already taking to social media to call for him to be taken off.
The first chance he missed was reminiscent of Gazza's painful near miss against Germany in Euro 96. With the ball being whipped low into a good area, the forward just couldn't connect cleanly and the ball froze to a halt for Alvarez to clean up.
The second was just as painful. Following some ping pong football, Marcus Rashford managed to play his teammate through so that he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
In situations like this, the call is often to just hammer it home, but Lingard tried to place it and couldn't guide it past Alvarez, who managed to push it wide.
Naturally, with so much on the line, this didn't go down to well with those watching at home, and they took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction.
