Two months ago saw London’s O2 arena host a tasty encounter between WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew and heavyweight David Haye.

After 11 rounds, it was the Liverpudlian who came out on top after the towel was thrown in from Haye’s corner by trainer Shane McGuigan.

The major turning point during that fight came in the sixth round when Haye picked up an injury that was later confirmed as an Achilles problem.

The 36-year-old then underwent an operation on the Monday after the fight and although his aspirations of returning to the top of the sport have taken a big hit, he already has his eyes set on a comeback date.

In fact, Haye is optimistic that he could return as early as December if everything goes according to plan:

"They're saying, 'Six to nine months, you can box again' so I'm thinking, 'Okay, December looks good (for a ring return]'," Haye said, as per The Express.

"I'm working out training in my mind, where I'm going to be, my rehabilitation.

"I'm already working.

This week represented a big step in the Hayemaker's rehabilitation as his protective boot was removed and he is eager to organise a rematch with Bellew:

"I'm out of my boot and walking. It's slow progress, but I am going in the right direction,” Haye posted on his official Instagram account.

"No pain. That's going to improve bit by bit every day until I am fully running again."

So it looks like Haye is very much on the road to recovery and if his prediction is right then we could see him back in the ring before the start of next year.
