Gabriel Jesus has already proven he is capable of becoming one of the best forwards in the Premier League, since his arrival at Manchester City in January.

Everyone at the Etihad was eagerly anticipating the 20-year-old's first appearance for the club after the Citizens sealed a permanent deal for Brazil's next top talent last summer.

It took just three games for the young Brazilian to net his first Premier League goal - in a 4-0 away win at West Ham in which he made his first start - and followed up with two crucial goals in a 2-1 home win over Swansea City in the following game.

But unfortunately for City, they could not continue to watch their young star continue his rapid rise in English football after Jesus was replaced within 15 minutes of the following game against Bournemouth with a fractured metatarsal.

It was a sad, and sudden, ending to what looked like being a fairytale in the making for the Brazil international, and the club were left to fear that his season could be over.

However, Jesus' timely return to action in the Manchester derby at the end of April was a great chance for the forward to end the season on a high note. And in City's 2-2 draw away to Middlesbrough, the Brazilian was able to return his name to the scoresheet.

Jesus crucial for City

Aside from West Ham, Jesus' goals have proven crucial for Pep Guardiola, and it's now becoming somewhat more understandable how the youngster so quickly managed to dislodge star striker Sergio Aguero from his starting role.

But despite Jesus' injury after just his first month in the Premier League, Guardiola ultimately believes City have been very lucky where the young Brazil forward is concerned.

City acquired Jesus for £27 million last summer, allowing him to remain with Palmeiras until the Brazilian league season concluded at the end of the year, but soon adapted to English football.

Guardiola enjoying City's fortune

And Guardiola believes that that figure now proves to be cheap, considering the instant impact and lasting impression Jesus has left on the Premier League.

“I don’t know how we got him so cheap, but now I think he would be expensive," Guardiola admitted, per the Mirror.

“Today the prices are crazy all around the world, so he would be expensive, I’m pretty sure about that.

“Before we got him, we expected a lot of things, but not that impact as soon as possible. He will be the future striker in this club for the next years."

Aguero's future had been thrown into question when Guardiola favoured Jesus in his starting XI, but the Argentine appears to have come to terms with the Spaniard's decisions and is willing to be patient until called upon by his boss.

A lack of goals is certainly not going to be an issue for City.
