Championship newcomers Scunthorpe have had an undisclosed bid accepted for Crewe midfielder Michael O'Connor.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins made his interest in the 21-year-old known earlier this week and has now had his offer accepted by the Alex.

A Scunthorpe statement read: "United have had an undisclosed bid accepted by Crewe for their midfielder Michael O'Connor."

It continued: "The club now have permission to talk to the Northern Ireland international."

O'Connor spent the end of last season on loan at Lincoln after falling out with Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson, who was keen for the player to make a fresh start at Gresty Road.

But it appears O'Connor will become Scunthorpe's first summer signing after they missed out on Walsall defender Anthony Gerrard, who has completed his move to Cardiff.
