Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna in their latest pre-season friendly in Austria.

Rapid skipper Steffen Hofmann netted the only goal with a second half free-kick to see off a strong Reds side which included Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Yossi Benayoun.

Roy Keane was to be disappointed on his return to his hometown as his Ipswich team fell to a 2-0 defeat at Cork City.

The hosts went ahead five minutes after the break when Tommy Smith pulled down Fahrudin Kuduzovic in the area and the Bosnian stepped up to convert the penalty.

Gavin O'Neal sealed the victory for the League of Ireland side three minutes from time.

Elsewhere, a Hull XI recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over non-league side Winterton Rangers with Tom Cairney, George Boateng and Dean Marney grabbing the goals.
