Former Notts County manager and player Ian Richardson is "amazed" by reports claiming former England and Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is to become the Magpies' new director of football.

Richardson works as activity manager for County's Football in the Community programme, and spoke of his surprise on Sky Sports News.

"Obviously we are all amazed that a former England coach is to come to this club," he said. "This is a great opportunity for us," he said.

"One of the lads saw it and we all thought he was joking."

Richardson admitted the League Two club had been through some tough times in recent years but that under ambitious new owners Munto Finance the future was looking bright.

"It was really difficult for us," he added. "There's not been any money to spend on new players. Obviously with Sven coming in as a director of football it's a major opportunity for the club."
