Simeon Jackson fired a hat-trick as promoted Gillingham clinched a stunning 5-0 victory over Swindon in Coca-Cola League One

Jackson set up Mark Bentley's opener before collecting John Nutter's through-ball and doubling his side's lead shortly after the break. Adam Miller's header made it three before Jackson added two more late on.

Ten-man Huddersfield came from behind to draw 2-2 at Southend. Lee Barnard and Franck Moussa had given the hosts a comfortable lead but Anthony Pilkington pulled one back in the 71st minute and Jordan Rhodes levelled eight minutes later.

Huddersfield also had Michael Collins sent off seven minutes from time.

Jimmy Smith's second-half volleyed goal ensured Leyton Orient boss Geraint Williams came out on top against his former club as the London side recorded a 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.

Orient went ahead through John Melligan after 40 minutes, but four minutes later Bristol Rovers levelled courtesy of Rickie Lambert before Smith struck the winner 23 minutes from time.

Andrew Whing's first-half own-goal was enough to give Walsall a winning start to the new season at Brighton.

The Saddlers were rewarded for a promising start after 30 minutes when Brighton defender Whing headed a deep Rhys Weston cross into his own net under pressure from striker Troy Deeney.

Two goals from debutant Myles Weston and a third from Sam Wood earned promoted Brentford an impressive 3-1 victory at Carlisle. Weston scored either side of a 17th-minute converted penalty from Carlisle's Ian Harte before Wood completed the scoring after 64 minutes with a deflected 25-yard drive.

Yeovil beat Tranmere 2-0 thanks to Dean Bowditch's first-half goal and Gavin Tomlin's penalty. MK Dons' home clash with Hartlepool and Stockport's trip to Oldham both ended goaless.
