Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed his interest in out-of-contract winger Jerome Thomas.

The former Portsmouth wide man, 26, has recently been on trial at Black Country rivals Wolves and Phil Brown's Hull, but he has now emerged as a target for Albion as Di Matteo looks to bolster his ranks before the August 31 deadline.

And the Baggies head coach told the club's official website: "We are looking to get some players with different abilities and attributes to what we have. He (Thomas) is a player we are looking at but nothing has been done yet."

Di Matteo also suggested there could be players heading in the opposite direction over the next two-and-a-half weeks, adding: "I'm very happy with the squad, although I'd like to add something which we haven't got yet.

"We will try and bring in a few more but we also need to make sure a few will leave."
