Notts County manager Ian McParland was understandably thrilled with his team's performance in their 4-0 demolition of Macclesfield.

County proved their credentials as promotion favourites with the result and McParland believes that his side have improved from last year.

"They have worked so hard and we've added that bit of quality that we did not have last season," he said.

"We put in some magnificent performances last year but now we've got more energy and more bite and some quality goal scorers.

"We got the goals at good times, passed the ball around neatly and switched our play well which is what we work on.

"But I don't think we can continue to win by four or five all season and I'm sure there will be times when we'll have to get our heads down and take a 1-0 win."
