Reading midfielder James Harper has joined Championship rivals Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old saw a move to Premier League side Wolves fall through last week but has been allowed to move to Bramall Lane after falling out of favour with new manager Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers said: "James has been a wonderfully loyal servant to this football club but, with only one year remaining on his contract, his loan move to Sheffield United probably brings his time at Reading to an end."
He added: "He's been first class over the course of the summer and has great respect for what we're trying to do here but we both agree it is time to move on.
"James has gone to a football club that will be good for him and he goes with the best wishes of everyone at the club."
