Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has revealed Roy Keane made a last-ditch bid to take defender Richard Wood to Ipswich on deadline day.

Laws explained that their Championship rivals came in just ahead of the transfer window closing and wanted to take Woods on a permanent deal.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, the Owls boss said: "A swap deal was suggested, but the way they were talking it was never going to happen."

He added: "We were not interested in a player swap. Richard Wood knows about it, we've been open and honest with him and he was in the picture."

Laws also revealed Wednesday are in talks with the 24-year-old about extending his contract amid speculation over his future.

"We are still in contract negotiations with him in a bid to sort it out," he added.
