Davidson out 'for a number of weeks'

Preston boss Alan Irvine feared the worst as soon as Callum Davidson was forced off in Scotland's win over Macedonia on Saturday.

The left-back was replaced just 14 minutes into the World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park and has been ruled out of the crucial clash with Holland on Wednesday. Davidson missed more than half of last season with a hamstring injury and this latest blow could sideline him for several weeks.

"We will be getting him scanned and we will know better when we have the results of the scan how long he will be out for but he will certainly be out for a number of weeks," Irvine told the club's official website.

"It is bitterly disappointing. I knew straight away it was a hamstring injury.

"I could tell by looking at him that it was not a small injury because he is a tough lad and would have kept going if it was something minor, so I feared the worst right from the start and unfortunately it is not good news."
