Moyes wants more from Everton

Everton manager David Moyes believes his players thrive in adversity and are relishing the challenge of competing at home and abroad this season.

The Toffees boss saw another display of character when a depleted side came from behind to beat Europa League opponents BATE Borisov 2-1 on Thursday. He expects that to be carried through into Sunday's match at home to Stoke despite issues over fatigue.

"I am always looking for high standards. I thought we could have played even better against Borisov and I am still looking for improvement," said Moyes.

"But the biggest positive for me was coming back from a goal behind on a horrible night in Europe when the players' minds will undoubtedly have been on the Premier League knowing we didn't have the strongest players on the bench to back them up.

"We showed tremendous courage to go on and win the game. It is what the players have done here [in the past].

"They know it is what I expect of them when they come here and I think they thrive on the responsibility of it."
