On Monday, Manchester United announced the summer transfer window's biggest signing as they brought in Romelu Lukaku for £75m from Everton.

The arrival of the Belgian striker was Jose Mourinho's second acquisition so far, with Benfica defender Victor Lindelof making the move to Old Trafford on June 15 for £31m.

The Red Devils have spent wisely so far as they bid to strengthen all areas of their squad ahead of the 2017/18 season.

One area which is yet to be addressed is in midfield and Mourinho will look to move quickly after securing Lukaku by targeting a member of one of their Premier League rivals.

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has been on the club's radar for some time now and they're ready to table a mammoth offer of £60m for the England international, according to the Mirror.

The offer would be the highest fee ever paid for an Englishman and United feel it will be too irresistible for Spurs to turn down.

Dier is reportedly keen on the move which would also double his current £70,000-a-week wage despite only signing a new five-year deal back in September.

The 23-year-old faced stiff competition for game time in 2016/17 due to the arrival of Victor Wanyama from Southampton.

At United, he would likely get more game time in the heart of midfield and could be the long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.

Spurs have previously stated that they will not sell Dier but at £60m, they would surely be foolish not to?

The former Sporting Lisbon man - who was signed from the Portuguese club for just £4m - is a fantastic utility player to possess but the fee quoted is simply outrageous for a player of his limitations.

United would be far better off taking the huge sum and offering it to Monaco for Fabinho, a player who possesses a similar level of versatility to Dier but also has many other qualities.
