Joe Hart’s stock has fallen dramatically over the past 12 months.

The 30-year-old was widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers before Pep Guardiola took the reins at Manchester City last summer.

But after he was deemed surplus to requirements by the City boss, shortly after his disappointing performances for England at Euro 2016, it came as a complete shock to many English football fans that he ended up signing for Torino on a season-long loan deal.

No disrespect to Torino, but they’re not one of Europe’s big clubs. Heck, they’re not even one of Italy’s big clubs these days.

Surely a bigger club wanted Hart, despite his unconvincing performances for the Three Lions in France?

Hart's plan hasn't worked out too well

Fair play to Hart, though, he took the opportunity to resurrect his career in Serie A. At least with Torino, he knew he’d be playing week in, week out.

The plan was to play well for a season, retain his status as England’s No. 1, and then return to Man City - having successfully convinced Guardiola of his ability - or join another top club either in England or abroad.

However, Hart failed to convince Guardiola, who splashed out £34.9 million on Benfica goalkeeper Ederson last month.

He made his fair share of mistakes with Torino and these errors didn’t go unnoticed back in England.

Hart opted against extending his deal with Torino in the hope of securing a better move ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, but it’s now clear that he’ll be taking a step down when he walks away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Hart's next club may have been decided

According to the London Evening Standard, Hart’s future could finally be sorted this week.

West Ham are confident of signing the shot-stopper, who has 71 international caps for his country, and a deal could be completed within a matter of days.

City want to offload Hart on a permanent deal and value the keeper to be worth around £20 million, but the Hammers would prefer a one-year loan.

In any case, it’s now likely that Hart will be plying his trade at the London Stadium next season.
