WWE still has one PPV (pay-per-view) event to go before SummerSlam.

The company will be holding their upcoming Battleground PPV later this month and will be an exclusive SmackDown Live brand event. WWE has only announced three matches for the event thus far.

Originally, Kevin Owens was set to defend the United States Championship against AJ Styles at the event, but those plans were changed when Styles defeated Owens at a recent live event at Madison Square Garden. Although WWE has yet to officially announce the rubber match for the event, it’s expected that this match will be added back to the lineup.

Jinder Mahal is set to defend the WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a gimmick match that has only been used two previous times. The Punjabi Prison match. It’s been nearly a decade that the company has booked this match.

This should be the blow-off match between these two Superstars as Mahal holds two wins over Orton over the last few months since he won the championship at Backlash in May. Mahal also beat Orton at the Money in the Bank PPV last month.

The other match that has been announced for this show is the returning John Cena taking on Rusev in a Flag Match. Cena, who had not been seen on WWE television since WrestleMania 33 in April, returned to SmackDown Live last week in the opening segment only to be interrupted by Rusev, who had been out of action after undergoing surgery. While Cena wanted to do the match that night, Rusev denied him, and it was later announced that the two former rivals would meet at Battleground.

The initial international betting odds for Battleground has been released. It should be noted that these are only accurate when the "smart money" comes in, which is typically the day of the PPV event.

Mahal is a 1/2 favorite to retain the WWE Championship over Orton at 6/4 odds. Also, Cena has opened as a 1/4 favorite to beat Rusev at 5/2 odds in the gimmick match. The other match that is set to take place will see The Usos defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day. This match was set up following their Rap Battle, which ended in controversy. As of this writing, betting odds for this match has yet to be revealed.

The Battleground pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, July 23rd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center and will air on the WWE Network.
