Monaco full-back Benjamin Mendy's Tuesday afternoon social media activity left Manchester City fans bursting with excitement. The 22-year-old French international has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad since Pep Guardiola completed the signing of his former Monaco teammate Bernardo Silva.Signed from Marseille last summer, his activity on Instagram and Twitter this afternoon suggests a deal is close to being completed. The signing of Mendy would come as welcome news to Manchester City supporters who today learnt that Dani Alves will be joining PSG instead.Formerly of Barcelona and Juventus, the free agent reportedly had an informal agreement with the Blues but their dithering has allowed the French giants to pounce.

Mendy posts on Instagram and Twitter

Liverpool had previously been linked with Mendy but the understanding amongst fans and journalists is that move to Manchester City is almost complete.

Firstly, the young left-back shared a photo on Instagram wearing shorts adorned with the Union Jack captioned "See you soon".

Mendy has not been involved with Monaco's pre-season training thus far and took to Twitter a couple of hours later to ignite the rumours further.

Responding with just the eyes emoji, Mendy brought attention to a tweet claiming he was teasing Premier League fans.

Manchester City are currently in desperate need of improving their defence following the recent departures of full-backs Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta.

The arrival of £40m rated Benjamin Mendy would go a long way in strengthening the left flank but 34-year-old Bacary Sagna is the only current option at right-back.

If they have indeed missed out on Dani Alves, Tottenham will be in a much stronger negotiating position if Manchester City move for Kyle Walker.

27-year-old Kyle Walker was usurped as the first choice right back at Spurs by Kieran Trippier during the second half of the season.

He's been a regular at Spurs since 2011 but It is understood that Walker's sale could raise upwards of £45m.

They've spent a combined £77m on Portuguese duo Ederson and Bernardo Silva but Manchester City's summer business is seemingly far from over.
