While it’s clearly a bizarre match-up, the extraordinary amount of money both Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will earn from next month’s fight in Las Vegas means it’s no surprise the bout is actually happening.Mayweather and McGregor could net around $100 million each - a truly remarkable figure - making it the most lucrative fight in history. However, put money to once side for a moment and there’s undoubtedly a risk for both fighters.Mayweather, 40, is the overwhelming favourite to win the fight against UFC lightweight champion McGregor, but there’s still a danger that he’ll lose his unbeaten professional record on the T-Mobile Arena on August 26.McGregor has less to lose, although he’s already told the world he’ll knock the former five-weight world champion out within four rounds. Defeat would be a major blow to the Irishman’s pride, $100m richer or not.

Reports claim Mayweather owes the IRS a lot of money

Mayweather, of course, is all about the money.

However, reports have emerged claiming that the American owes an awful lot of money to the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] in taxes.

Sports business journalist Darren Rovell tweeted a document showing that Mayweather allegedly owes a staggering $22,238,245 to the IRS.

Mayweather had earlier responded to the reports by posting a photo of his accounts on Instagram, claiming all is in order with his finances.

Mayweather shows off $100m cheque

Despite that, McGregor teased Mayweather about his alleged financial predicament during Monday’s opening press conference.

And after being mocked by McGregor for shadow boxing on stage, Mayweather screamed to a member of his team: “Hey, gimme that back-pack!

“Let me show you motherf***ers what a hundred million dollar fighter look like!”

He then proceeded to pull out a cheque worth $100m.

McGregor's funny response

McGregor, with a cheeky smile on his face, then responded: “[Give] that to the tax man!”

Mayweather then replied: “You’re right! I’m the IRS!”
